What Is a Diesel Particulate Filter?

A diesel DPF or particulate filter, is exhaust device that traps particulates  such as ash and soot. A DPF uses a substrate made of a ceramic that is in a honeycomb structure. 

To help reduce emissions from diesel cars and commercials, the particulate filters capture and store pollutants , which must be burned off to regenerate the filter. When the regeneration process(works) it burns off soot deposited in the filter, which lowers emission and black smoke you can see coming from diesel vehicles . car manufacturers use DPFs to trap particulats to meet emission standards. 

 Symptoms of a Blocked DPF Diesel Particulate Filter?

 Blocked diesel filters are caused by short journeys, Vehicles witch operate at low speeds or short journeys. are unable to meet the requirements for the filter to clean itself.

A DPF can fail due to poor servicing.The lifespan of a diesel particulate filter varies 100k 200k miles .

A DPF may fail a lot sooner if your car is not maintained. blockage can be caused by the use of the wrong oil, modifications, low-quality fuel or running the car on a low fuel level (Cant regen).
